Today marks an exciting milestone as the Video Game History Foundation officially rolls out early access to its digital library, a treasure trove for gaming enthusiasts and researchers alike. This library kicks off with a remarkable collection of over 1,500 text-searchable, out-of-print video game magazines. Among these are rare gems that have seldom been available to the public. Additionally, the library holds a fascinating array of previously undisclosed game development materials, artwork, press kits, promotional content, and more.
Curious to explore this digital vault? You can check it out by visiting library.gamehistory.org—as long as the servers can handle the demand.
Highlighted in this inaugural launch are the Mark Flitman collection and the Cyan collection. In the past, we had the privilege of accessing a select number of items from the Mark Flitman collection. This access greatly enriched our projects, such as the 30th anniversary Star Fox documentary and an in-depth look at Dylan Cuthbert’s Eclipse demo. Both of these projects were created in collaboration with the Video Game History Foundation. The Cyan collection, on the other hand, boasts an impressive archive of over 100 hours of production footage from the iconic Myst series.
If you’re interested in diving deeper into what this library offers and how the Video Game History Foundation envisions its future, there’s plenty more to discover.
