Magnezone, Mew Ex, and Yanmega Ex cards are standout components worth considering for any deck. Magnezone shines due to its flexibility and its stage-1 card’s energy generation abilities. Meanwhile, Mew Ex and Yanmega Ex impress with their capacity to attack without the need for specific Energy types.
Less than a month ago, Pokemon TCG Pocket introduced a fresh expansion known as Space-Time Smackdown. This set takes inspiration from Generation 4 featuring iconic Pokémon and trainers, highlighting favorites like Dialga and Palkia. Among the new introductions are powerful cards like Darkrai Ex, which deals continuous damage through its Nightmare Aura ability, and Palkia Ex with a whopping 150-damage attack capable of taking down most opponents in a single move. However, despite not being the centerpiece in most decks, Magnezone, Mew Ex, and Yanmega Ex are gaining traction for their adaptability and strength.
One of the top-performing decks relies on Exeggutor Ex from Genetic Apex and Celebi Ex from Mythical Island, boosted by Space-Time Smackdown’s Giant Cape and Cyrus cards. These are excellent fits for any Pokemon TCG Pocket deck; however, this adaptability is generally easier with Trainer cards and Items since they aren’t type-restricted. Pokémon cards rarely achieve such universal appeal, but Mew Ex, Yanmega Ex, and Magnezone prove exceptions to this rule.
In the current meta, decks often thrive on specific strategies, but this approach doesn’t always guarantee success. A particularly robust deck combines Darkrai Ex, Magnezone, and Druddigon to operate as a stalling force, dealing incremental damage until Magnezone can unleash its 110-power attack. This deck’s strength lies in Magnezone’s universal compatibility, an attribute it shares with Mew Ex and Yanmega Ex.
Magnezone is a top-tier card thanks to its high HP, solid attack, and, most importantly, its stage-1 counterpart, Magneton from Genetic Apex. Magneton boasts the Volt Charge ability, offering a unique advantage by generating one Electric Energy per turn, irrespective of its type in the Energy Zone. This feature allows players to keep Magneton on the bench while it collects Energy, eventually evolving into Magnezone for offensive engagement.
Mew Ex and Yanmega Ex share a versatility akin to Magnezone but bring their own unique strengths. Their capacity to attack with any Energy type — independent of self-generation — makes them exceptionally valuable. While energy generation aids in quickly deploying powerful strikes, being able to leverage any Energy opens doors to various strategic possibilities. Hence, Mew Ex and Yanmega Ex can seamlessly integrate into any deck, regardless of the dominant Pokémon type.
Mew Ex is slightly divergent due to its Psyshot attack, needing one Psychic Energy. Yet, its primary attack, Genome Hacking, is versatile, requiring any three Energy types.
These Pokémon cards are reshaping Pokemon TCG Pocket’s meta, proving effective in multiple strategies. Yanmega Ex thrives in Grass decks, not because of its type, but due to its Electric weakness, avoiding a common Fire vulnerability. Mew Ex, on the other hand, is a formidable adversary, leveraging Genome Hacking to capitalize on the strongest opposing attacks, effectively countering formidable decks.
