If you’re someone who finds the tiny displays on most handheld gaming devices less than ideal, then Tencent’s latest offering might just pique your interest. According to a report from Videocardz, Tencent has introduced the Sunday Dragon 3D One. This isn’t just any handheld device; it’s more akin to a portable console, boasting a vibrant 11-inch screen that’s powered by an Intel Lunar Lake CPU. Of course, maneuvering this sizable gadget will be quite the task.
Under the hood, the 3D One is equipped with the Core Ultra 7 258V. This processor includes four performance cores (P-Cores), four efficiency cores (E-Cores), and an Arc 140V integrated GPU featuring eight Xe2 cores. After putting Intel’s Lunar Lake processors through their paces, they seem to match up well against AMD’s Strix Point APUs in terms of gaming performance. It comes with a generous 32GB of LPDDR5X-8533 RAM soldered onto the CPU die, which unfortunately means it can’t be upgraded. However, there’s mention of a speedy 1TB SSD that’s likely modifiable if you’re looking to enhance its speed or storage capacity.
The 3D One could potentially be the first Lunar Lake handheld to make it to market, provided it launches before the new year since MSI’s Claw 8 AI+ isn’t due until early 2025. That said, temper your expectations as the 3D One is still in the prototype stage. This device features an impressive 11-inch display with a resolution of 2560×1440 and a 120Hz refresh rate, pretty close to what you’d find on a laptop. Meanwhile, GPD’s upcoming mini-laptops max out at an 8.8-inch screen, showing just how massive Tencent’s device is. The 3D One touts real-time eye-tracking technology for glasses-free 3D, an exciting feature that Tencent has optimized for games like Path of Exile, Blade & Soul, and Arena Breakout: Infinite.
The included controllers are quite advanced, with Hall Effect joysticks, linear triggers, and two customizable buttons positioned at the back. These controllers are detachable too, so if you prefer third-party alternatives, just ensure they’re compatible with this unique model. Tencent has also integrated 100W fast-charging, though details about the battery capacity remain undisclosed.
Admittedly, the 3D One breaks away from traditional handheld design expectations. It’s a bold move for a portable device to tackle larger screen sizes. While it remains in its development phase with limited and potentially geographically restricted availability, this out-of-the-box thinking could cater to gaming enthusiasts who crave a substantial display for getting fully immersed in their gaming worlds.
