Although IGN recently reported some updates, Nintendo hasn’t actually changed the pre-order date for the Nintendo Switch 2 in North America. The report referenced Nintendo’s own pre-order page FAQ, which states that the first wave of invites for their pre-order program is set for May 8th. Interestingly, this date was included in the FAQ right from the moment the page went live on April 2nd, two days before any news of a delay came out. We’ve verified this using a snapshot from the Wayback Machine taken when the page first appeared.
The initial delay in launching Switch 2 pre-orders was largely due to tariffs imposed by former President Donald Trump, which could have severely affected the shipment of these systems to the U.S. Recently, though, many of these tariffs have been substantially eased after being put on hold for 90 days. Despite these changes, Nintendo has yet to announce any updated plans for North America’s pre-orders.
