The team working tirelessly on Skyblivion, the ambitious project to bring The Elder Scrolls IV into the world of Skyrim using its engine, has hit a significant milestone: they’ve completed the landscaping for every part of Cyrodiil. Although there’s still plenty on their to-do list before they aim for a 2025 release, this is a major step forward.
In a tweet, the Skyblivion team announced that with the completion of the Niben Basin and Valley, every corner of Cyrodiil has now undergone at least an initial landscaping pass. Their next focus will be elevating previously completed areas of the map to meet higher standards. It’s worth noting that just last month, the team shared an update video stating that only the Nibenay region on Cyrodiil’s Eastern frontier needed finishing touches. Well, that box is officially ticked!
From their updates, we know there’s more detailed work ahead, such as finalizing navmeshing. This is crucial because, without it, NPCs might find themselves hilariously bewildered by the landscape—much more so than occasionally bumping into a tree stump. Anyone familiar with the quirks of vanilla Skyrim or Oblivion will appreciate the importance of these fixes.
Additionally, the developers are deep into crafting the game’s interiors, prioritizing complex quest locations that require more time and creativity than standard interiors would. At the last update, there were still half a dozen quests waiting to be developed.
For those interested in joining this monumental effort, the Skyblivion team is actively seeking new volunteers with the right skills to help bring their vision to life.
