Rumor: Gears of War Collection Launching on PS5 from Day One

Since hearing about the PS5 version of Forza Horizon 5, it feels like the floodgates have opened for Xbox titles making their way to Sony’s gaming platform. A persistent rumor has been floating around for a while about Marcus Fenix potentially entering the battlefield against the Locust Horde on PlayStation consoles this year. Interestingly, it’s looking like this won’t be just any release but instead a collection of the first three Gears of War games, debuting simultaneously on both PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

According to the well-known leaker eXtas1s, there’s word of a Gears of War collection currently being put together, though we don’t have an official announcement date yet. From what eXtas1s says, this collection is slated to launch across multiple platforms. What’s exciting for fans is the inclusion of cross-play, which means you’ll be able to team up with friends no matter if they’re on PC, Xbox, or PlayStation.

“I can talk about the Gears Collection now because confirming its existence has been quite the challenge for me,” shared eXtas1s, as translated by ResetEra member Rychu. “But it appears to be a real project, and I can confirm that when it’s announced, it will be as a day-one multiplatform release. I’ll say it again: when these remasters are unveiled, they will allow cross-platform playing of the old Gears titles, meaning players can play them together simultaneously. The one thing I haven’t managed to verify is a potential Switch version, but you’ll be able to enjoy cross-platform play on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation.”

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard whispers about Gears of War potentially making its way to the PS5. Earlier this month, Jez Corden of Windows Central hinted that Gears of War: Ultimate Edition might arrive on Sony’s console in 2025.

As with all rumors and speculation, it’s wise to take this one with a grain of salt. Even if various leakers and insiders are echoing similar sentiments, the dynamic nature of game development means plans can change at any moment.
