Great news has just come in for all the PlayStation fans and lovers of vibrant, whimsical games. Astro Bot snagged a BAFTA award last night, clinching not just any accolade, but the coveted Game of the Year honor. It outshone some remarkable titles like Helldivers 2 and Balatro to secure the top spot.
But that wasn’t the only victory Astro Bot celebrated. Alongside its Game of the Year triumph, it scooped up several other awards, including accolades for Audio Achievement, Animation, Family, and Game Design. This achievement echoes its success at The Game Awards last year, where it similarly dominated the competition, despite 2024 being packed with outstanding contenders.
During the award ceremony, the team accepted the honors together, with Nicolas Doucet stepping up to give a heartfelt speech. He paid homage to the hardworking team back in Japan, saying, “Thank you so much to all of them, back in Japan. They crafted this game with so much love, so much care, every single day bit-by-bit. With no thought to winning things, we were just doing the best we could to make people’s lives brighter.”
Nicolas didn’t forget to extend appreciation to specific team members, the composer, everyone at PlayStation, and all the partners whose games were featured in Astro Bot. He also gave a nod to the BAFTA academy, the developers’ families, and the visionary game developers who paved the way before him.
