It seems Sony is finally taking steps to address the long-standing issues with the PS5’s Activity Cards feature. For a while now, this feature has been less than functional, particularly after Sony removed the ‘Resume Activity’ option. While it doesn’t look like that specific function will make a comeback, today’s PS5 system update hints that Sony hasn’t completely abandoned Activity Cards.
In the latest PS5 system update beta released this February 2025, there are welcomed improvements to Activity Cards. The removal of ‘Resume Activity’ left the feature in a bit of a limbo, often ignored by Sony. Back in December, I highlighted the various problems, including cards not working at all or showing incorrect information.
The patch notes for this new PS5 system software update beta—currently rolled out to a select few via invitation—state:
– Viewing details about activities has been simplified.
– Cards now fully display activity details, though potential spoilers remain hidden.
While it’s clear that ‘Resume Activity’ isn’t making a return, these updates indicate that those glitchy, malfunctioning cards might finally function correctly. I remain cautiously optimistic since we won’t know how effective these changes are until they’re tested across numerous games. Nonetheless, an improvement, however modest, is still progress.
Sony had initially hyped up Activity Cards before the PS5 hit the market, so it’s been rather disappointing to see this feature left unattended for so long. Hopefully, this update marks the beginning of more consistent improvements.
