With Episode Heresy set to launch on February 4, Bungie is gearing up for significant changes. Although the developer is holding back some details for now, they’ve been generous in teasing what to expect in the upcoming content drop. A recent Destiny 2 livestream gave fans the clearest glimpse yet into Episode Heresy, showcasing a major gameplay activity known as The Nether. This mode takes inspiration from the corrupted Leviathan, offering a fresh mix of exploration and combat set within the Dreadnought, complete with distinctive modifiers and adversaries that keep each playthrough distinct.

Weapons took center stage during the showcase, with Bungie confirming the return of some favorites from Season of Arrivals and Vault of Glass, including the fan-loved Fatebringer hand cannon. The focus was intense on the new Episode Heresy weaponry, notably the Strand-powered support auto rifle, Adamantite, and an arc area denial grenade launcher, Psychopomp. Alongside these comes a fresh dynamic: Fragile Mods.

Bungie’s latest insights reveal that these Fragile Mods not only amplify weapons with unique effects but also open new avenues for character builds, granting them enhanced power. However, acquiring these mods requires effort—they’re not just handed out freely. Act 1 offers just two Fragile Mods, with more anticipated in Acts 2 and 3. Yet, these mods are ephemeral, lasting only throughout Episode Heresy before they’re phased out.

While some might find the temporary nature of Fragile Mods a point of contention, it aligns with Destiny 2’s evolving nature. Anticipating the Codename Frontiers update this summer, Bungie has kept specific details under wraps.
