Over the past week, the internet has been buzzing with what seem to be very credible leaks showing off the final design of the much-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2. But the excitement peaked yesterday when Dbrand unexpectedly dropped a fully detailed 3D render of the new console. Intriguingly, this render came with a redesigned Dbrand Killswitch carrying case tailored for the Switch 2. According to Dbrand CEO Adam Ijaz, the company managed to get their hands on the actual dimensions through a 3D scan of the hardware. With Joy-Cons attached, the console measures about 270mm wide—without them, it shrinks to 200mm—stands 116mm tall, and boasts a thickness of 14mm.
The reveals hint at a console with a significantly larger 8-inch screen, as opposed to the 7.2-inch panel on the Switch OLED and the 6.2-inch display on the original Switch. There’s a new “C” button, likely a capture shortcut, on the right Joy-Con, and the controllers are magnetically detachable with a smoother curve. Additionally, it features both top and bottom USB-C ports and a broad, U-shaped kickstand, reminiscent of the improved version on the Switch OLED.
All the current information suggests we’re mere months away from a Q1 2025 release, and it seems Nintendo has taken the Switch 2 design to the next level. However, contrary to previous models, this version is rumored not to include an OLED display. Instead, it will likely sport an 8-inch 1080p IPS LCD, which we hope will significantly outperform previous LCD screens.
Switching gears to Dbrand’s Killswitch case design, it keeps in mind the new features like the detachable Joy-Cons. While earlier Killswitch cases for devices like the Steam Deck included more comprehensive protection or kickstands, this one smartly breaks into parts with a stylish teal bungee cord holding it all together. Known for making robust protective gear, Dbrand seems poised to deliver another hit.
If you’re looking for a raw look at the Switch 2 itself, those renders might not be here yet. But the leaked specs from Dbrand coincide with a 3D-printed mock-up received by the YouTube channel SwitchUp earlier, giving fans some idea of what to expect from the finalized design.
The sheer size of this leak from Dbrand, a company not seemingly held back by any non-disclosure agreements, suggests that an official announcement and release details for the Nintendo Switch 2 are likely imminent. Previously, insider information hinted at a release before the year ends, and Nintendo has marked March 2025 as the timeframe to unveil details about the console. With that date rapidly approaching, accessory makers like Dbrand are already in full swing, gearing up for what promises to be Nintendo’s next blockbuster in the hybrid console market.
