At this point, Avowed hasn’t been announced for a PlayStation release, but if you’re on PC, there are ways to make it feel like you’re playing on one, thanks to mods.
It seems logical to expect Avowed to eventually land on PlayStation. Xbox’s Phil Spencer talks a lot about bringing games to various platforms. Look at the rumors about Halo possibly coming to the Nintendo Switch 2—it’s tough to envision a scenario where Avowed doesn’t eventually appear on the PS5, even if it’s a bit down the road. But for now, it’s an Xbox Series X/S and PC exclusive. Neither option is bad, though I admittedly have a soft spot for the PlayStation’s user interface; it just feels more familiar and comfortable.
Thankfully, modders are here for us in times like these. There’s already a mod available that switches Avowed’s controller UI to show PlayStation buttons. Need to interact with an object? The square button is your best friend. Not sure where to tap for a jump? The cross button’s your go-to (aside from those odd exceptions, like in Kingdom Hearts). Modder NeuroticNinjah put this together, keeping it simple yet effective for those who prefer the PlayStation feel or who just can’t wait for an official release.
But that’s not all! Modder Chachinito took it a step further by designing a mod that swaps out the Avowed loading screen for one that displays the PlayStation Studios logo. This isn’t a game-changer for your actual play, but for PlayStation enthusiasts playing on PC who might be a bit miffed about the game’s Xbox exclusivity, it offers a tongue-in-cheek workaround that could lighten the mood.
We’re all waiting to see if Avowed will hit PlayStation before any DLC or sequel announcement drops from the game’s director—though if it’s anything like other game releases these days, we may be in for quite a wait!
