There’s been a lot of talk lately about the possibility of an Xbox handheld device, and Asus just turned up the heat with a teaser on its X account, formerly known as Twitter.
In the teaser, we see an animated robot hard at work, programming some upgrades on its terminal. Just as it’s about to execute these changes, a couple of intriguing devices drop onto the scene—a gadget that resembles an ROG Ally X gaming console and what looks like an ROG Raikiri Pro controller. When the dust finally settles, the robot transforms into a gaming console that bears a striking resemblance to Asus’s current top-tier handheld.
Adding to the curiosity, the official Xbox account chimed in with the classic side-eye meme in response to Asus’s post. No official word from either company yet, but the cheeky reply from Microsoft hints at Project Kennan—the collaborative handheld between Xbox and Asus, designed to seamlessly integrate both Xbox and Windows into a single platform.
Although the specifics are still under wraps, the teaser hints at some exciting features for the much-anticipated Xbox handheld. Gamers could look forward to longer battery life, enhanced performance, greater storage capacity, and a fresh design for the device.
Asus dropped this teaser on March 31, 2025, at 2 p.m. EST, likely planning the timing to steer clear of any April Fool’s fear. Given how tech companies love their April Fool’s Day jokes, Asus probably wanted to make it clear that they’re not joking around this time. It’s reminiscent of their ROG Ally reveal a few Aprils ago, which turned out to be the real deal.
Not to overlook, Nintendo’s set to announce the Switch 2 at their Nintendo Direct on April 2. Perhaps Asus’s reveal is a play to grab some attention away from their competitors. The teaser might not have dropped a ton of details, but it surely got PC gamers and handheld fans buzzing. Still, it’ll take more than this to sway the die-hard Nintendo fanatics.
We might not see a brand-new Xbox console until 2027, but the introduction of an ‘Xbox handheld’ would undoubtedly be a hit. Fingers crossed, it’ll be capable of running Xbox games directly, rather than just being a Windows 11 device dressed up with an Xbox design.
