In Assassin’s Creed Shadows, players will find themselves diving into the vast landscapes of central Japan for countless hours. Now, with the latest update, they can ease their minds during those lengthy journeys across the rolling hills, courtesy of a feature that makes a comeback to the series with the game’s first official patch.
On Tuesday morning, a welcome version 1.0.2 update rolled out across all platforms for Assassin’s Creed Shadows. This patch brings some clever tweaks, particularly to the “pathfinder” feature for your character’s mount. Your horse now has the ability to automatically follow roads, utilizing the game’s built-in directions to transport Naoe or Yasuke to their destination. Fans of previous Assassin’s Creed titles like Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla might recall this handy feature, so its initial absence from Shadows baffled many. Don’t worry, though—if you prefer to control your steed manually, you can still toggle this feature off.
Also, thanks to this patch, the pesky GPS line won’t pop up when you’re snapping pictures in the game’s breathtaking photo mode. Besides reintegrating the auto-follow option, the update also boosts your horse’s speed within city confines.
One aspect of Tuesday’s patch bound to win player approval is the streamlined process for selling or dismantling loot. Now you can select multiple items from the shop or Forge screen and dispose of them all at once. Once you leave the Forge, you might notice that Ubisoft Québec has lifted the frame rate cap in the Hideout, enabling the game to exceed 30 frames per second there. Further improving the visual experience, the update adds PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution support for those playing on a PlayStation 5 Pro, Sony’s advanced image upscaling technology.
The patch also lets players reset individual Mastery nodes in Naoe’s and Yasuke’s skill trees. Previously, you could only respec entire categories, like Tools or Shinobi, but now you have the freedom to fine-tune each node. Navigating menus has gotten easier too, with a shortcut that allows you to jump straight to the game’s sleek objective board by holding the Options/Menu button.
Interestingly, the v1.0.2 patch hasn’t touched the arguably overpowered legendary tanto known as the Igan Sunset or its remarkable perk. According to our very own Tyler Colp, this weapon allows Naoe to “freely ping-pong between enemies until they’re defeated,” when paired with certain skills.
