As the gaming community gathers to celebrate today’s big reveal of The Elder Scrolls Oblivion Remake, there’s a buzz in the air—not just for the throwback, but for a glimpse at what’s next. Those of us hoping for future adventures were pleasantly surprised when Todd Howard took a moment to remind us that The Elder Scrolls 6 is still very much on the radar. He even declared quite confidently that the team is actively working on it.
In the midst of sharing a bounty of news and updates about the Oblivion Remaster, Howard said, “obviously we’re working on the 6th chapter here.” This mere statement is the most substantial piece of news we’ve heard about Elder Scrolls 6 since March 2024. Back then, Bethesda revealed that early versions of ES6 had been released to testers, with a hint that the game has the potential to be quite enjoyable—something we all hope for, naturally.
Prior to this, excitement was stirred up by a former Skyrim designer, who warned not to expect any updates on ES6 until six months before its release—back in October 2023. Just a month before that, Phil Spencer speculated that ES6 might be around five years away from release. At the time, this estimate seemed humorous, yet here we are, almost two years later, still scraping for details.
When it comes to solid updates from Bethesda, there’s been an eerie silence for years. August 2023 brought word that development had officially started—five years post initial announcement at E3. Maybe I’m stepping out of line here, but does anyone else think they may have jumped the gun a tad on that announcement?
Jokes aside, it’s somewhat comforting to see a flicker of progress on Elder Scrolls 6. It’s been ages—I was still in school when the game was first announced, and now I’m juggling adulthood challenges, complete with bills and the awkward world of dating apps. I’m confident Bethesda, still holding the crown for top-notch first-person RPGs, will deliver something amazing. But seriously, how about tossing us some artwork or a teaser? At least in “Taken,” Liam Neeson had more proof his daughter was alive than we’ve had about Elder Scrolls 6!
Feel free to share your thoughts below—is anyone else feeling a bit of fatigue? And let’s take bets on how much student loan debt I’ll accumulate before Elder Scrolls 6 finally launches!
