Details are emerging about Days Gone Remastered, more specifically its thrilling new Horde Assault mode, set to be one of several features breathing new life into this remastered version. Alongside Horde Assault, this release—hitting shelves on April 25, 2025—will also introduce exciting modes like Permadeath and Speedrun.
Days Gone originally launched in 2019 for the PlayStation 4 and while its reception was mixed at first, it has since struck a chord with a dedicated community. This passionate player base has long been hoping for a sequel, though so far, Sony hasn’t given the nod. But in a delightful surprise for fans, a remaster was announced during February’s State of Play livestream, exclusive to the PlayStation 5. This upgraded edition promises richer visuals and additional content to freshen up its post-apocalyptic world.
Bend Studio has been busy on the PlayStation Blog, revealing that with the new Horde Assault mode, gamers can expect around 10 more hours of gameplay. Players will face off against hoards of Reachers, Breakers, and the terrifying Rager bears, standing their ground and attempting to rack up high scores. Horde Assault boasts over 20 weapons, including firepower like a flamethrower, and features 24 game modifiers called Injectors. These modifiers switch things up, introducing effects like “Exploding Freakers”—which cause the undead to burst upon defeat—and “Wanted,” raising the difficulty level from the start. The studio also rolled out a new trailer spotlighting this mode, revealing protagonist Deacon, alongside Boozer, Rikki Patil, and more as they battle through intense scenarios.
In Horde Assault, players start in the Cascade region with just a single sidearm. As they battle through the initial waves, they unlock the Drifter bike, crucial for scavenging the area for Supply Boxes that offer random weapons. The mode also incorporates Side Jobs, rewarding players with resources and XP, along with a progression path of 35 levels filled with unlockable Injectors, character skins, and much more. Fans are left guessing about a tantalizing reward teased by the developers—an eagerly sought-after item linked to their bike.
As we near the release of Days Gone Remastered for PS5, excitement is peaking. While the PS5 is the remaster’s main stage, PC gamers won’t be left out; they’re set to receive the new gaming modes and content through the Broken Road DLC, also arriving on April 25. Both platforms can look forward to diving back into this gritty world with fresh challenges and content to explore.
