The galaxy of Helldivers 2 has taken a turn for the worse lately, ever since the events surrounding the latest Major Orders. The colossal threat of the Meridia Singularity looms over Super Earth, and honestly, no one knows how to halt its impending approach. Our Helldivers have just endured a series of harrowing clashes against newly mutated Terminid strains. And to top it off, the Automatons have launched a counterattack from the northwestern front.
In the newest Major Order, Helldivers face a critical choice: protect one of two vital assets from the relentless Automatons. The options are either the strategically important MD-8 Gas Mines, which could prove invaluable in combat scenarios, or the somewhat vulnerable young adults on Julheim.
Here’s a snippet from the latest Major Order briefing:
“The Automatons have initiated a bold attack, cunningly taking advantage of ongoing Terminid and Illuminate offensives to promote their tyrannical objectives. Intercepted communications reveal they have two primary targets. But, unfortunately, our Federation can only muster the resources to defend one.”
These past weeks have undeniably marked a high point in the Helldivers 2 storyline. The galaxy map now highlights a meter showing the Illuminate’s accumulation of Dark Fluids, hastening the Singularity’s march towards Super Earth. Scientists have discovered that the Gloom—a dense cloak of spores—has overrun Terminid space, transforming those bugs with an abundance of space oil. So, Helldivers geared up and braved new infested planets. Battling Terminids in crowded urban environments filled with Predator Stalkers and spore-exploding foes was a downright nerve-wracking ordeal. But the Gloom has thickened, leaving us locked out once more.
With current events unfolding, we’re left to wonder what players will prioritize—will their altruistic instincts prevail over the temptation to test the new gas weapon? Mines, while notorious among fans for their high risk of friendly fire, are less favored, especially considering the effectiveness of gas weapons against Terminid hordes. At this point, Super Earth has a tenuous hold on both contested planets, but they won’t remain uncontested for long, as the Automatons soon prepare to strike. We’ll see soon enough what choices the Helldivers 2 community makes to confront this daunting challenge.
