It seems like the days of getting Nintendo Switch Online without shelling out real cash are coming to an end.
Today, Nintendo dropped some big news—one of the most-loved features for Switch users is wrapping up right after the re-release of Xenoblade Chronicles X, and it’s also confirmed that another feature won’t carry over to the anticipated Switch 2.
Starting March 25 at 12:59 a.m. ET, the My Nintendo Gold program will be discontinued. This program gave players a sweet 1% of the value of physical first-party releases back as eShop credit during their first year, along with a 5% reward on all eShop purchases instantly. There’s one exception, though: physical games released between March 25, 2024, and the cutoff date will still get the reward points until their year is up. This means titles like Endless Ocean: Luminous through to the Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition are in luck, but unfortunately, Pokemon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond won’t make the cut.
Moreover, there’s an update on the Switch Online Vouchers. These handy vouchers, which Nintendo Switch Online subscribers could buy for $99 US (or equivalent), were a great way to snag pairs for first-party releases. Now, it’s confirmed they won’t be compatible with games for the Switch 2. However, voucher users can still redeem them for upcoming titles on the current Nintendo Switch, with Legends Z-A and Prime 4 being available options.
