Overwatch 2 is getting an exciting new mode called Stadium, and it’s set to shake things up with its unique features. In this mode, players will dive into the action with Mods, a clever mechanic that allows for incremental upgrades to your character’s stats and abilities. Essentially, you get to build your hero from the ground up throughout an extended match that rapidly switches between maps and game styles in a competitive best-of-seven format.
At the start of each round, you’ll find yourself in an armory where you can spend the points you’ve previously earned to boost your character’s traits and abilities. Just imagine Reaper gliding through the air while in Wraith Form, or Soldier: 76’s healing station expanding its range and delivering a powerful boost to everyone nearby. Kiriko, too, gets a significant upgrade, as she darts across the map without needing to target an ally. Blizzard has billed Stadium as the ultimate “fantasy” for each hero, dialing their abilities up to jaw-dropping levels of chaos and destruction.
Another intriguing feature of Stadium is its shift to a third-person view. Blizzard’s rationale behind this decision is simple: it clears up the often overwhelming on-screen clutter that comes with upgraded abilities during matches. Initially, Stadium will feature 14 heroes, with plans to add the rest of the roster over time. Keep an eye out for our in-depth impressions of this thrilling new mode right here soon.
