Amidst the buzz surrounding the freshly dropped trailer for Fantastic Four: First Steps, a couple of promotional posters have stirred up controversy. Some fans are pointing fingers, accusing Marvel of using AI in their creation. However, Marvel flatly denies these claims.
It’s becoming increasingly tricky to distinguish AI creations from manual work as technology gets more advanced. Back in the day, if an image looked off, it was often brushed off as a poor Photoshop job, and nothing more. However, nowadays, the immediate suspicion shifts to “Is this AI?” much like what occurred when the posters for The Fantastic Four: First Steps were released. Given a closer look, it’s understandable why some might jump to conclusions.
One noticeable oddity is a woman’s face appearing twice within the crowd, and then there’s the peculiar case of a person waving the Fantastic Four flag, who, oddly enough, has only four fingers. A giveaway sign of AI involvement, many would say. Add to that the strange lighting that tends to accompany AI-generated visuals, and you have posters that seem suspiciously off. Yet, Marvel reportedly assured The Hollywood Reporter that AI wasn’t involved in creating these posters. Which leads to another conundrum: how did they end up so lackluster?
It’s hard to shake off the impression that Marvel might be cutting corners, which is surprising given their budget could easily afford better quality. This is especially true when you contrast it with the trailer itself, which genuinely seems to rely on actual sets – a refreshing change after a long spell of CGI-heavy productions. If anything, these posters feel more like subpar Photoshop efforts – the repeated face, identical in both instances, doesn’t quite align with AI quirks. It does make one wonder, though: why should we rush to see a new Marvel film if attention to detail seems to be lacking even in the smaller aspects?
Hopefully, the film itself will offer a different story, but we’ll only find out once it hits theaters on July 25.
