Big news for Sims fans: EA is giving The Sims series a fresh new look just in time for the game’s 25th anniversary by re-releasing The Sims and The Sims 2, along with their respective expansion packs.
The newly announced The Sims Legacy Collection is packed with content. It includes the original Sims game along with several beloved expansion packs like Livin’ Large, House Party, Hot Date, Vacation, Unleashed, Superstar, and Makin’ Magic. Plus, for those who love a bit of nostalgia with a twist, The Sims 4’s Throwback Fit Kit is also part of the bundle.
As for The Sims 2: Legacy Collection, it brings back The Sims 2 and a whole host of popular additions, including University, Nightlife, Open for Business, and more. You’ll also get Pets, Bon Voyage, and a slew of others like Seasons, FreeTime, and Apartment Life. For extra flair, you can dive into the thematic fun of the Holiday Party Pack or Glamour Life Stuff, among others, with a little sprinkle of The Sims 4: Grunge Revival as well.
However, there is one notable absence for furniture enthusiasts—the much-loved IKEA Home Stuff pack didn’t make the cut for The Sims 2 bundle. Both these legacy collections are neatly packaged together in The Sims: 25th Birthday Bundle.
The original Sims game had its first release in 2000, followed by The Sims 2 in 2004. While we haven’t seen The Sims released again since, The Sims 2 packs did make an appearance in The Ultimate Collection, available through Origin between 2014 and 2018. Interestingly, it was once an option to snag it for free by showing proof of owning the original discs—let’s just say, navigating that process led to some amusing phone calls involving EA representatives and frantic inquiries back home!
Even dedicated early adopters of The Sims might have noticed the struggle of getting these classics to work on today’s computers. With these new releases, we’re all hoping they’ll run seamlessly on the latest Windows systems, hopefully sparing us from those infamous black boxes and pink soup graphical hiccups.
